Yoga for Vitality~Take your joints through their full range of motion. Prevent degenerative arthritis or mitigate disability by "squeezing and soaking" areas of cartilage that normally aren't used. Spinal disks are the shock absorbers between the vertebrea that can herniate and compress nerves. They crave movement to get their nutrients. This well balanced yoga practice with plenty of backbends, forward bends, and twists, can help keep your disks supple. When you contract and stretch muscles, move organs around, and come in and out of yoga postures, you increase the drainage of lymph, which in turn helps the lymphatic system fight infection, destroy cancerous cells, and dispose of the toxic waste products of cellular functioning.
This class will address function movement, cognitive brain health, yoga for arthritis, yoga for improving balance, yoga for osteopenia and osteoporosis. Expect to learn breathing and meditation techniques to support overall health and vitality.
This class is for you if you are new to yoga or if you prefer a class that focuses on the health benefits of yoga.

Ashtanga Foundations~This class can be attended in person (limited spaces available) or online via zoom. ‘Mysore method’ is named for the city in South India in which Sri K. Pattabhi Jois lived and taught for over 70 years. It is a traditional way to teach students individually but in a group environment, and is different from the commonly known led (guided) classes. In ‘Mysore class’, students work at their own pace, practicing the ashtanga series that is appropriate for their individual needs and ability. The class is mostly silent apart from a few words of personal instruction. Expect individual attention with as little interruption as possible to the continuity of the inner flow of your own individual experience. This method is particularly powerful because it nourishes a close student-teacher relationship and allows the teacher to understand the idiosyncrasies of each student, and gain an insight into how to help their progression both in the short and longer term. At one level the teacher’s role is to make sure that each student is practicing correctly, including breathing, vinyāsa, alignment in each posture, dṛṣti, etc. However, the Mysore method allows the teacher to give students enough space to explore and experience the yogic process internally, without unnecessary interference. They should guide them toward self-discovery, rather than trying to define their experience. Much of the time it is the teacher’s role to provide a supportive environment for the yoga to evolve while observing their practice, making corrections only when necessary. In the Mysore room, there exists the opportunity for complete silence. Often only a few words may need to be exchanged between student and teacher. For some, particularly those who are used to guided classes, the silence can be confronting. But just as silence in a library allows you to become immersed in the subject that you’re reading, silence in the Mysore room supports a focused practice
